Apollon Glykas was born in 1983 in Athens and grew up in Ermioni, in the Peloponnese.
He graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts (2005-12) having previously studied at the Leica Academy Creative Photography (2000-03). He is a founding member of the experimental music collective Petra Luna, which consists mostly of visual artists. In 2019 he received an award from ARTWORKS, the Artist Fellowship Program of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. In 2017 he was awarded the second prize in the art competition “Code Rail Art 2017”, organized by the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE). He collaborates with architectural and creative agencies in the production of installations and visual constructions and has been working as a photographer since 2000. Since 2010 he has been teaching drawing and painting. His work explores the concept of viewing and time, creating compositions distinguished by their uncanny, unsettling, but also rigorously ordered balances. He uses materials and techniques from various fields, working on them independently at first, before connections start emerging in the process, which set off their common journey towards their arrangement in the finished work. |
